The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Assoc. The meeting was an activity-packed gathering that drew union leaders, stakeholders and senior management staff. Among those present were the immediate past CMAC, Dr. Ebune Ojochide Sunday; immediate past DCMAC, Patricia Medupin; the Acting Director of Administration Mal. Abdullahi Abdulrahman; MDCAN Chairman Dr. Adaranijo Kolapo; AHAP Chairman, Dr. Pharm Lawal Muhammad; JOHESU Chairman, Mr. John Umoche; MWAN President, Dr. Adefunmitola A. Onifade; NANNMS' Chairman, (Represented by) Nurse Umar Hassan; SSA Chairman, Dr. Nnam; and ARD President, Dr. (Mrs) Mary Obari, alongside other senior management staff.
The meeting was structured into two key segments, the first being a formal handing-over ceremony marking the exit of the outgoing CMAC and DCMAC and the induction of new appointments.
Assoc. Prof. Abdulrahman Shehu read the letters of appreciation to Dr. Ebune Ojochide Sunday, and Dr. Patricia Medupin respectively. In his address, the CMD lauded the immediate past CMAC and DCMAC as dutiful, dedicated, passionate, and diligent members of the top management team, acknowledging the continuous support and positive impact they have made on the hospital during their tenures, both in official capacities and at individual level.
“Their efforts have not gone unnoticed,” the CMD affirmed, as awards of excellence were formally presented to Dr. Ebune and Dr. Patricia in recognition of their outstanding service. The CMD also assured that a proper send-forth celebration awaited them at the hospital’s Grand Award Night scheduled for the end of the year.
In response, both Dr. Ebune and Dr. Patricia expressed heartfelt gratitude to the CMD and the entire management for the honour. They described their tenure as truly memorable-one for the books- and credited the collaborative working relationship with the CMD and top management as cornerstone of their success.
The ceremony also unveiled the new leadership into the CMAC and DCMAC offices. The CMD announced the appointments of Dr. Odekunle Raphael as the new Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC); Dr. Musa Abdulkarim as Deputy CMAC (Clinical); Dr. Godwin Tijani as Deputy CMAC (Training) and; Dr. Odi Abimbola as Deputy CMAC (Research). Each of the appointees was noted to have undergone thorough scrutiny before being selected for their respective roles.
The MDCAN Chairman commended the CMD for his progressive initiative of expanding the DCMAC structure to three positions, describing it as a welcome injection of fresh administrative ideas. He urged the newly appointed officers to cooperate fully with the CMD and broader management, and extended a call for reconciliation to members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), encouraging them to let go of the past grievances and move forward collectively.
A brief but warm visit was paid to the offices of the CMAC and the three new Deputy CMACs, where they were received by their respective administrative officers and confidential secretaries.
Following the handover segment, the formal TMC meeting commenced, with a range of pressing institutional matters tabled for deliberation. Key discussion points included a revised organogram for the hospital, plans for the upcoming Grand Award Night, pension remittance for staff, environmental concerns, drug donations, a new automated machine procurement, and a non-functioning machine at the Dialysis Unit. Of notable urgency was the topic of the upcoming accreditation for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Department. The CMD responded swiftly, directing that the already existing Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) Committee co-chaired by Dr. Adefunmitola A. Onifade and Dr. Adebayo Adewole be fully operational ahead of the accreditation exercise. Several other matters raised during the session received immediate attention and consideration from the CMD and management, underscoring the administration’s commitment to prompt and decisive governance.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, reflecting the CMD’s continued drive to foster transparency, collaboration, and institutional excellence within the hospital community.
